A bureaucrat hits a beggar, strangles him with his tie, then checks to see if there are stains in his suit and smiles and says to himself, “it’s good to be me baby”, as hordes of people a few hundred meters away are having a celebration of democracy and other great people like himself who are destined to save them all. A child approaches the bureaucrat and tugs at his sleeve. He quickly takes his hand away and once again checks to see if there are stains on his coat sleeve. He then climbs to the top of the stage and smiles upon the thousands of people assembled there with hopeful smiles on their faces.
“My dear people”, he begins. “Today you have all come here….to show your support for a great and noble cause.” “Together, all of us can make a difference.” “Together we can make sure that those other people who don’t believe in what we say SUFFER for their unnatural thoughts.” “Yes I know that I’m a powerful man”, “I have money and influence…but I will be nowhere without the support of my people.” “YES...ALL OF YOU…I LIVE FOR YOU AND YOU ARE THE REASON THAT I AM BREATHING TODAY”, he screams with a psychotic glint in his eye. “I have always been with you, and that will never change”.
The crowd breaks into deafening roars of delight
“WE MUST TAKE THE FATE OF THE PEOPLE INTO OUR HANDS NOW MY FRIENDS”, he continues. “THE TIME HAS COME FOR THOSE TRAITORS WITH UNNATURAL THOUGHTS TO GET THEIR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT.” “And as the man of the people”, he continues, calming down a bit, “I think that you…the people should go out there and tell THEM what you think”, to which the crowd responds with an earth shattering scream. And suddenly, people are running all over, trying to find weapons, torches, anything they can find to go take care of ‘them’. It’s complete chaos.
Way in the back of the crowd, the child who tugged at the bureaucrats sleeve sheds a tear. “Well you told me you would take care of me when you were screaming with my mother on the bed”, he says.
The end?
Maybe a beginning
In the death stained fields
of a businessmans dream
a soul cries liberation
